Member, NextGen Advisory Task Force
Bilal Afolabi, CFP®, ChFC®, is a founder and wealth management advisor at Chosen Advisory Group and serves on the Goodwin University School of Business Advisory Board.
Afolabi was born in Togo, Africa, and moved to Hartford, CT, when he was eight years old, where he learned his third language, English. Growing up in a Ghanaian and Nigerian household, his parents instilled in him the value of hard work, education, and perseverance.
Afolabi began his wealth management journey at 19 with the nationally ranked top 10 internship program at Northwestern Mutual, where he was ranked the number one intern in the east and in the top 10 nationally out of 2,500+ interns. He graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Economics — all while holding his spot on the Dean’s List and playing Division 1 soccer.
Today, Afolabi is nationally recognized for his insights on financial planning. He has been a speaker at the Annual Medical Education Conference (AMEC) and featured articles with the Certified Financial Planning Board, Vault, Firsthand, University of Washington, and Denison University. Afolabi was recognized by Forbes as the Best-In-State Top Financial Security Professional for 2023 and 2024 and by the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) as the youngest ever 4 Under 40 in the state of Connecticut. Recently, he was also included on Pittsburgh Magazine’s 40 Under 40 list.
Afolabi splits his time between Hartford, CT, and Pittsburgh, PA, while his wife, Aaliyah, completes her residency training as an otolaryngologist at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Together, they enjoy traveling, trying new restaurants, doing yoga, and spending time with their rescue cat, Princess. Recently, Afolabi joined an adult league soccer team in Pittsburgh and helped them win their first-ever trophy.
